In the spring, changes were happening so quickly that we had to be reactionary. Now, like it or not, we know this road. School being up in the air or already at home, the next sports season is a maybe, traveling…who knows?
God promises to supply all that we need as we trust Him.
Our initial reaction might be, “Of course I trust God.” But, beyond our gut reaction, are we living like that is true? In the uncertainty of the pandemic and havoc of 2020, have we slid towards apathy, or control, comfort, and distraction? It would be normal, even understandable, but we can’t stay there, or we will be filling our need for our God with the things that are close at hand, and we can miss His best for us.
Maybe this isn’t true for you, but if I’m not rooted in the essentials, I forget Him. I forget His plans and how He provides. I forget His faithfulness and begin to fear. I start to live as if this life is all about me and my happiness.
As we look at the months ahead, what is going to keep us rooted, remembering that we are secure in God’s hand, so we don’t need to be swirling in worry. What’s going to keep me tethered to God and His endless supply of what I will need so we can do together what each day calls for?
For me, it’s the essentials.
- I have to be praying.
- I need to be intentional in learning more about Him and what life with God is like with a community of people who are learning from each other.
- I need to be meeting with God regularly.
If you look at that list and say, “Me too!” or even if you would like to try something like that, here are some easy ways to jump in:
- Arise: A Call To Pray (Monday Mornings at 6:14CST on Zoom click for info)
- Monday Night Zoom Bible Study: (Beginning September 21st, more info on how to sign up coming soon!)
- Journaling with the STAR method: (We will post more on this next week!)
We don’t lean on to God because we have to. We lean in because we can, and we are designed to thrive when we are rooted in Him.
Next week you will find posts with expanded information on Prayer, Bible Study, and Journaling.
Our hearts will fill themselves with distraction, seeking to fill with futile things. We can fight for the essentials and find the satisfaction only found in Him.
Let’s begin again. When life seems like it’s spinning in uncertainty, let’s double down on the essentials.
