Prayer is worth fighting for. It’s worth making the time and sticking to it.

God hears and answers specifically, and if we get organized about it, we will see Him work.

Here are a few things to consider as we make prayer an essential part of the fall.

  1. Remember to pray.
  2. Choose a method.
  3. Stream it throughout your day.
  4. Consider a prayer group.

When things seem chaotic, it’s time to double down on the essentials. (Link to Friday).

Prayer doesn’t need to be abstract. It can look like making requests of your good Father. He is waiting, but we have to remember to ask. How can we remember to pray? Pick a place and a time. Report to your prayer place like you would report to an appointment. It is our most important appointment of the day.

Some people love a prayer journal. I can’t figure out how to keep my place and make updates in a journal, so I write my prayers on post-its and then place others over them or remove them when they no longer apply, purely so I don’t forget. If you are looking for a way to pray and keep track, I would recommend watching The War Room and reading Priscilla’s Shirer’s book, Fervent.

To pause and reset your gaze, prayer apps like Pray As You Go or Lectio 365 may be a great addition to the fall routine.

Finally, you could consider a virtual prayer group. Arise: A Call To Pray meets Monday mornings at 6:14 am CST on Zoom. This twenty-minute prayer call is one of my favorite things to come out of the trials of 2020. It may give you a new pattern you can implement on your own.

The Creator of All Things has given each of us a direct line to Himself, but we have to use it. He hears, and He answers, but if I’m not paying attention, I miss it. I love to watch God provide the narrow road, and He does over and over as we remember to ask, keep track, and talk with Him continually. Our God is kind and generous and He is waiting for you to call.
