I feel like we are a bit late to the game here. My kids start school tomorrow. Probably. I feel like I need to put a disclaimer on everything right now. Unless they have a fever. Unless the school cancels at the last minute. These times feel so disorienting to me because there is so much we don’t know. It makes it challenging to lead, to lay out the plans for my people and to envision what lies ahead.

When there is so much unknown, let’s remember what we know.

  • We know this is an unprecedented time.
  • We know we, as a community, are experiencing it together.
  • We know the best lessons are often learned in difficult times.
  • We know nothing is surprising to God.
  • We know He is trustworthy.

As my people jump out of the car tomorrow, for who knows how many days, we will return to what we know. I wonder if that would be helpful for each of us as we proceed forward, whether it’s for you or the kids you are sending to school or your kitchen table.

  • These are strange times.
  • We are all experiencing them differently.
  • We will choose to give grace to the people around us.
  • We will hear with ears that want to understand.
  • We will ask God to produce good things from this season in our hearts and teach us lessons we will carry forever.
  • None of this is surprising to Him.
  • We are safe, loved, cared for, and planned for because we are God’s beloved.

Let’s remember what we know, and return to what is true. We have hope in what God will do in the future, because of what He has done in the past.

If you can’t say you understand all of that yet, tell God you want to know Him that way. Keep your eyes on Him and I bet it won’t be long before you can say it too.
