The ending days of summer are bittersweet, but it may be the best time to get produce! Shishito peppers are one of those secret finds of August that you will want to get your hands on. You can find them at farmers markets or in grocery stores by the pound, and you will want more than one! My kiddos eat these blistered peppers like candy. They are not considered to be a hot pepper, but about one in ten ends up being pretty spicy, which makes eating them a little like Russian roulette! They are super flavorful, so just adding a little oil, salt, and lemon juice make them an appetizer you will want again and again!
Shishito Peppers
Ingredients
1 Tablespoon Olive Oil plus more to drizzle
1 pound Shishito Peppers
Salt
Garlic Powder (Optional)
Red Pepper Flakes (Optional)
1 Lemon
Directions
In a large skillet over high heat add 1 Tablespoon of vegetable or olive oil. Add shishito peppers and turn often until they are blistered on both sides. (About 5 minutes.) Remove from the pan and place in a bowl. Add salt, a dash of garlic powder, and a drizzle more of olive oil. Add dried pepper flakes if you desire more heat. Squeeze a little lemon juice on them and serve immediately. To eat, just hold them by the stems and take a bite! See if you are the winner of the spicy one! Good Luck!
