We are at the point in this quarantine where it isn’t new, and yet the end is unclear. It’s the place where we have the opportunity to choose. I will choose to trust. Making that choice can be like breathing…“Inhale confidence, exhale doubt; inhale confidence, exhale fear.”

I hear my son’s feet scamper down the long hallway towards our room. He sneaks into our bed and places his head against mine. It makes me think of how God invites us in. He invites us to live held.

I hear Teddy start to suck his thumb, and as I gently pull it out of his mouth, he sighs and goes back to sleep. Gentle correction, great love.

To rest, to receive and to trust in God’s great love, I must choose to breathe it in. I must decide to take the steps down what may seem at times to be a long, dark hallway towards the one I know again and again will take me in. I must allow myself to be held close.

Inhale confidence, exhale doubt.

Inhale the truth of His faithfulness to me, exhale fear.

I can choose to go it alone and proceed through the days headstrong. I can choose my own path, refuse to be held, and push away when God pulls me close. I can choose to sit out and wait for this to pass.

But if I do, I’ll miss it.

Entering into an interactive life with God is a choice.

I will choose to allow myself to enter in. At first, it’s a conscious effort to look for my God, to fight to keep my heart open; after a time, the choice becomes more effortless.  Choosing where to place my gaze, my hope, and my trust. God has good things in these days and the days ahead. Let’s let His great love mark these days.

Enter in. Receive.

“Inhale confidence, exhale doubt, inhale confidence, exhale fear.”
