When my oldest was two, we were sitting on a blanket outside practicing animal sounds. You know…
“What does a cow say?”
Smart child replies… “Moo.”
Momma claps.
You know the drill.
Things that you do with your first born that no other sibling gets. Anyway, we got to the snake, and I asked, “What does a snake say?” And Cole’s reply, “Eat the Apple.”
Hmmm… Yes, he did.
Even at two, he had heard the story of Adam and Eve and the snake, and the fall and he remembered the story. The snake did say, “Eat the Apple,” and then goes the rest of the Bible. The rest of humanity.
What hit me in that moment was something we all know but need to be reminded of… no matter how little, they remember what you say, they learn what you teach, and they understand the stories.
So mommas, what stories are you telling your children? With most churches right now suspending their children’s ministries and schools maybe or maybe not in session, we as parents may need to be even more intentional about what we are teaching our children.
If you find talking to your kids about Jesus daunting, or if you feel as though you don’t even know where to begin, let me give you a few fun resources to get you going. There are comfortable places to start where you can easily teach the truth of Jesus in a way your kids will remember and embrace. You certainly don’t have to be a bible scholar, a perfect role model, or the mom of the year to teach your children the true stories of the Bible. Brookside Church has put all of their Sunday morning children’s programming online in an easy to follow format. It has videos and scripts with a watch this, do this, say this, and ask this formula that is easy to teach and enjoyable for kids grades K-6th.

Adventures in Odyssey has been around since I was a kid, so a few years… 😉 But their content is so good. This was originally a radio broadcasted show. The storylines of the characters keep kids engaged and share biblical principles as they face problems, fun, and adventures. It was written for kids 8-12 but I think all kids would enjoy it.
