God nudges us. If we are listening carefully, God loves to direct us. He loves to whip up dreams and desires in our hearts and then push us to fulfill them. He loves for us to succeed as he orchestrates big plans, big conversations, and big dreams. He cheers us on in the process because he knows that when we are at our best and trust our plans to Him… He wins. The kingdom wins. If we would listen to every nudge and obey, the earth would be full of powerful plans and ideas all in motion. All carrying out the potential that God has for us!
But, I feel as though there is a little white lie that Satan uses to stall us. To make us feel as though we need to improve ourselves before we can begin any intuitive thought or calling. Satan would love to stop all of God’s nudging, and I think that little white lie he uses is that we need to “be better to begin.”
We need to be more fit before we go to the gym.
We need to be more educated before we can teach.
We need to have a cleaner home before we can entertain.
We need to be wiser before we can mentor.
We need to be… who we are and where we are. We just need to obey.
There are times in my life where I stalled on obeying and I felt it every time. There are also times in my life where I have heard God’s voice to move, and I followed. When I have obeyed, I have seen incredible changes in me or my community of people, and it makes me regret all over again those times when I stalled or neglected the nudges of God.
God uses people where they are.
The bible is filled with stories of men and women who were nudged by God to do big things. If you look at their lives, we would think they are not ready for such a significant purpose! Several times they questioned God by telling him that they were not prepared. I believe that the God who created the entire universe can appropriately pick out people to give assignments to!
Moses was a man who was raised by a people not his own, committed murder, ran away and then was called on by God to go back to his adopted family and free an entire nation. He doubted God over and over and begged for God to send someone else. In the end, he obeyed, and God’s chosen people were rescued from slavery.
David was a young shepherd boy not old enough to be on the battlefield. Yet when an entire army of skilled men was too afraid to fight, he was the one that felt the nudge to take his limited tools, a sling and a rock, and slay the mighty giant Goliath.
Mary, the mother of Jesus, was only 14 and unwed when the angel told her she was pregnant with the Messiah. Worthy of a complete freakout I would say! But her response, “Let it be unto me as you have said.” She was given the worst birthing conditions, had to flee her country with a newborn and yet raised the Son of God.
When God nudges, he doesn’t put prerequisites on it. When God calls you, he has already planned the purpose and knows the outcome. When God calls you, he is ready for you… as you are… with your current talents and limitations. He invites you as you are so that you can trust in Him through the process. God loves working with the raw and undefined. God loves working with our inner weaknesses to show the world His strength. When we obey His nudges, we are telling God that we trust Him and His ability to do great things through our limited capacity. When we listen and react, we are telling God that we believe that He will do through us more than we could ever imagine.
We don’t need to be more. We need to be ready.
