A few years ago my husband and I started something new with our kids.  We picked specific words that we thought each child needed to hear (different words for each kid) and decided to be very intentional about repeating these words over and over to each kiddo.  We chose words that we wanted them to embrace as truth and carry with them deep into adulthood to remember when we are not there anymore.

Statistics say that one needs to hear something 10 times before it is actually learned.  With our kids it feels like at least 50 :).  To reinforce and literally brand the words into each child, my husband often makes them repeat the words back to us before he leaves for work.  Right now in our 5-year old’s little life, this is repeated to her…

You are kind.

You are loved.

You are joy.

And you are strong!

One day when we were at a shopping area, Ella was skipping and singing very loudly these things over and over.  It was so sweet to hear the truthful words on repeat. I realized at that moment God does the SAME thing for me. HIS daughter.  He repeats the same thing over and over in HIS word and in HIS creation to let me know TRUTH.

He wants us to hear his whispers of love.  He wants us to absorb His words so that when our life gets hard we will not forget His Truth.

There are different things that we need to put on repeat.  For you, it may be words about God’s love for you.  Maybe it needs to be encouragement that God is faithful and true to His word.  It could be reminding words that we are forgiven by His grace.  But whatever it may be, when you call to Him and listen for His voice, He will respond.  When He does, put those words on repeat.  Write them on your doorways and sing them in the hallways.

Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withers, the flowers fade but the word of our God remains forever.”

Put His beautiful words on repeat.  Use them for when the battles come, the tears flow, or when your heart is singing with joy.  May His sweet words be on repeat, over and over in your heart.
