Belief is claiming something to be true. Belief starts in your head, and as it grows roots, it settles in your heart. Faith is in your feet. It’s proceeding. Because I believe, in faith I will proceed as if it is so. I believe the bridge will hold me, but it takes faith in the bridge to walk on it, to rely on it. I believe God will take care of me. I trust Him and so in faith, I will proceed even when I am not completely certain of where we are headed. I will run towards my God. Belief is what we claim as truth; proceeding in faith will mold our belief and etch those truths on our hearts.
As we proceed in faith, our experiences will solidify the God we have heard of and believed in into the God we know and have seen. A life lived in faith will be a life lived in the experience of our God. Life is experienced with God when we stop setting our beliefs on the shelf to admire and proceed in faith. When we proceed in faith we live held and cared for…we no longer hold our own situations together because the unseen is placed at a higher position of reality than the seen and so in faith we look and ask what is next and proceed like it is the ultimate reality, because it is.
Proceeding in faith will mature into trust. We trust our God, and over time as that muscle becomes stronger, we will begin to trust Him more than we trust ourselves. Our life is not our own but it is lived in Him. Everything is His and He is everything. Our lives become engulfed by our faith.
Belief looks pretty written in fancy lettering and hung on our walls. Faith is found in the fire, where we look at the walls of our lives and say, “God let them burn, because You are my everything, my promise and my hope.” It is where we step into the unknown, knowing our God knows, and placing our trust there. We walk through the fire and are not burned, but changed.
Faith is movement, not according to our own accord but according to His. God doesn’t want our good works, God wants our faith, our trust, and out of that He will produce the good works. He will provide everything that He desires in us and for us.
Faith opens the floodgates to the life we were meant to live, where free-flowing grace washes over us and we are propelled towards the ultimate reality…a life of the worship of our ultimate God who we trust for now and for forever.
