You can start a Virtual Bible Study.

As we stride out this time of quarantine, let’s not give up the habit of meeting together! Now may be the perfect time to connect with your people over a Bible study, share the hope that you have, and fix your eyes on what is certain, which will forever be our God. I wonder if this is the time when the God that people have heard about will become the God they know. I sure hope so.

If this is something you have been considering, I thought I would share how to get started and what is working for us, hoping it will give you a place to start.

  • Set The Date
    • Sometimes the most challenging thing to do is get started. Ask some friends, so you have a core group and pick a time. We chose 8:30 pm so people could get their families fed and put their kids to bed. You pick the time that is best for you.
  • Select Your Study
    • It may be easier if you do an online study. We are currently going through The Good Gospel Study. I love the videos, and if you want to start a study quickly, they are easy to access online.
    • If:Equip now has a way to download their newest study via PDF, which will be so helpful as we meet with our people virtually! Their next study comes out on April 23rd. You could use this as your first study and can order it here.
  • Develop Your Agenda
    • You can find an example of our agenda here.
    • We choose to meet as a large group and separate into Zoom Breakout Rooms, so everyone has a chance to share in a small group setting.
  • Shore Up Your Zoom Skills
    • You can take a free Zoom training by following this link.
    • This hour-long training will help with other Zoom skills and the information on how to use breakout rooms for small groups can be found near the end of this training.
    • For more information on breakout rooms check out this article.
  • Pray Your Heart Out
  • Invite Away
  • Final Tips
    • Start with everyone’s screens muted.
    • Invite people to unmute when sharing.
    • Practice putting people into breakout rooms with a small group of friends before you try it in the actual study.
    • Practice sharing your screen to show the video to the large group.
  • Be Brave and Go For It!

I know God is winning all over the place during this time of quarantine. One place I see Him winning is that people who may never set foot in a church are willing to consider checking out a Bible study on Zoom. This is for people serious about growing with Jesus and for those who are scoping Him out. The variety of people in this virtual study is so beautiful. Be brave. Throw it out there. Pray your heart out and then watch God get the glory. Cheering you on!
