A few years ago this picture, not doctored or photoshopped, went viral.  Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey was reading the New York Times bestselling book  “The Case for Christ;” a book where the author, who is a legal editor with a background as an expert in research, makes the decision to research Jesus.  The book describes the exhaustive research the atheistic author does on Jesus and his ultimate decision after looking at endless facts to become a Christian.

This picture is even more profound when you consider McConaughey’s Oscar award speech where he gave credit to God in more depth and authenticity than is typical.  But my favorite part about this picture is that it illustrates someone searching for the truth.  Someone who we know is crazy busy but is taking the time to process one of life’s most important decisions, “Do I believe in Jesus and what He says to be true?”

I am friends with many people who struggle with doubt and pursuing the next steps about their faith.  Doubt is okay.  Countless people who now know Jesus have waded through doubt. It means that you are thinking, questioning, and searching for answers.  Doubt though is never intended to be permanent. It is a state of limbo, and you can’t linger there long without taking action on what’s next for your life.

One of my favorite quotes is by C.S. Lewis.  He says, “Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.”

In other words. Be all in. You either believe the gift of Jesus dying on the cross, or you don’t.  If it isn’t true, you have nothing to worry about, but if it is… there is no room to doubt. And friends the truth of Jesus is so very true.

Now is the time. If something is of infinite importance, you can’t afford to miss it. This week we celebrate Easter; the time when we think about Christianity and Jesus just a little more. It’s a great time to start asking questions about what Easter really means. About the true meaning of the cross and why Jesus died for you and rose again. If you doubt the story, seek the answers.  If you are stuck on where to turn, buy “The Case For Christ” and take action on the next steps of your journey.  The cost to stay in doubt is just too high.

This Easter, ask God to meet you where you are and help you wade out of your doubt. He wants you to be all in.
