As we approach the fall and activities resume, there are two distinctly different ways we incorporate God. We can fit Him into the spaces or invite Him into all of them.
What we choose can change everything.
Sometimes we treat God like an enhancement to our life, like a great purse we carry around. But, life with God is allowing Him to become our life.
That sounds big, but the journey can start very simply by saying, “God, anything.” Craft me. Teach me anything. I’ll do anything. I’ll follow You anywhere.
What I found in saying, “God, anything,” is that the God who created me, who deeply loves me, and deeply loves you, didn’t ask me to do something I would hate or was totally uncharacteristic of me. But He invited me deeper.
This life with God is not an invitation that you accept to a boring party full of restrictions. This is an invitation to say yes to the Creator of your soul. It will lead you to things beyond your ability and keep you on the edge of yikes. It’s a life of freedom and intimacy, and best of all – it matters forever.
As we invite God to have His way in us, commit to saying yes to Him forever and exchange our way for His, we will find it is not a fair exchange.
God gives way more than He asks for. He promises to be our full supply. He is trustworthy and His things are forever.
So this fall, as our calendars begin to fill, maybe at the top we write, “But first God – anything.” Let’s pray it every day. Over time it can become the way we live, and it’s my bet you will find it to be the best way to live forever.
