In the busy days of laundry, commuting to work, a short run, and cleaning up all the things, we can fight for spaces to pour good words into our ears.

I’m not sure what comes out of your kids’ mouths, but let’s just say in the thick of these days, if my kids’ words were all that entered my head…I might die. Who knew four little people could “need” so many things? It can be the same at your work, or wherever you spend your days…things can get a little negative. I will choose to fight for what goes into my ears.

I have a pair of rose gold headphones that have become one of my closest companions.  Now when my kids need me, I am not running around with these things on all day long ignoring them. (That doesn’t mean I don’t dream about it some days.) But during the day, there are little pockets of time that I can choose to use well and feed some positive things into my ears. Those few minutes add up and can honestly be pretty life-changing. I started simple…first it was choosing wisely the music I turned on in my car. Then books on Audible and podcasts became my jam.

Here is an example from my life: I don’t know about you, but when I clear the table after dinner, my people scatter like there has been a bomb threat. Hello, headphones. Hello Jamie Ivey Happy Hour podcast. It may take me a couple of days to get through an episode, but my soul is getting little glimpses of inspiration, and it’s life changing.

Practically speaking, I need to have it loaded and ready ahead of time, because by the time I scan through to pick what I feel like listening to…the window of time is closed.  So have it teed up. Keep your headphones in the same place, stick those puppies in your ears, and welcome ten minutes of kitchen bliss.

Here is a list with links to a few things that I love to pour into my ears:

  1. The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey – Podcast
  2. Everybody Always, by Bob Goff – Book on Audible
  3. Pull It Off, by Julianna Zobrist – Book on Audible
  4. Christian Contemporary Radio (station sounds a little meh, but it’s where I find the most soul-feeding songs) – Pandora
  5. KLove – Radio

Let’s pour into our ears the things we want to fill our hearts. It will keep our vision looking forward towards the horizon, rather than on the dashboard of our cars and the crumbs on our floors.
