Imagine a movie where the character could open a book and the text would light up, telling her things she would need to know for the road ahead, tips about how life works best, and the truth about herself. If the book were sitting on the table, you would be anxiously awaiting someone to open it.
If the Creator of your life would tell you the truth about you, your life, and Himself, would you open the book?
Our life can be a conversation. We listen to God by reading what He has to say in the Bible and we speak to Him in prayer. Sometimes, like in a relationship with a friend, we spend more time talking than listening, or we ignore them and go along with life on our own.
The Bible can be intimidating if you haven’t read it or have read it without asking God to illuminate it for you. You may call it boring. You may find yourself embarrassed, not knowing how to locate things or where to start. How are you supposed to read the Bible?
In the movies, the book opens itself and the pages fly to just the right spot. Unlike the movies, your Bible will likely not open itself; God gives you the choice of whether you want to know the truth or not. He isn’t going to force His truth on you, but He will reveal it if you search for it like the treasure it is.
Start with Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians. Read a chapter a day and ask God to show you His Word is true. Ask Him to change the way you think…maybe even ask Him to change your life.
There are a lot of different versions of the Bible; some are easier to read than others. Give the New Living Translation a try. You can get it free on the YouVersion Bible app.
If you think there must be more, what you are looking for might be sitting on your shelf. Open it up and take a listen.
