When we travel, Ella packs her suitcase with her very important things that she can’t live without… her lambie, her blanket, her latest craft. One time she even brought a cardboard paper towel roll with a smiley face written on it. You know, because that’s very important.

These things are securities to her.  And it’s normal for a child to cling to material items to make them feel safe.  But, it made me process what I also am holding on to, carrying with me…  that I am placing my securities in.

The year 2020 has been a “let’s get out of our comfort zone” type of year. The things that we have put our securities in…. our jobs, social lives, gym lives, financial stabilities, health… have all shown to be false comforts.

There is nothing here on this earth that is even close to being a real security, and yet we hold on to things as if they will carry us. The only thing that we can put our security in is Jesus. He is our hope. He is the only thing that does not change. Psalms 39: 6-8 reads,

“We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it. And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.”

If you feel as though hope is lost, or the things you are finding comfort in are proving to be false, seek the only thing that truly sustains, Jesus.  He wants to be your comfort now and forever… the best security of all.
